33 images... The border's total length is 3,169 km (1,969 miles) and it is the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with about 250 million people crossings every year. The border wall or border fence consists of several separation barriers designed to prevent illegal movement across the Mexico – United States border. The barriers were built to taper transportation of illegal drugs manufactured in Latin America and illegal immigration. The barriers are strategically placed to mitigate the flow of illegal border crossings along the Mexico – United States international border into the Southwestern United States.
